Reddit and Odeist Scout
On Reddit, Odeist AI works through Odeist Scout, our app on Reddit. You install it in your brand's own subreddit. It finds threads where you can help, drafts replies that follow each subreddit's rules, sends a weekly report on what people say about you and your competitors, and helps you run your subreddit. You choose what it looks for in Odeist AI and hand it over with a setup code. This page covers why it runs on Reddit, how to set it up, what each tab does, and where it stands today.
Where it stands
Odeist Scout is waiting for Reddit's approval. Reddit checks every app that makes posts before anyone can install it outside the developer's own test subreddit, and Scout's dashboard is a post. We sent Scout to Reddit on 2 November 2026, and the check usually takes about a week. This is Reddit's standard check for apps on its platform, not a special permission.
Until then, the Reddit agent under Brand › Agents says Waiting for Reddit's approval, and you can already fill in your settings and copy your setup code. Once Reddit approves Scout, it says Set up on Reddit and shows the Install Odeist Scout button.
Why it runs on Reddit
Reddit stopped accepting new requests for its Data API on 31 October 2026, so Odeist AI can't search Reddit from its own servers. Scout runs on Devvit, Reddit's own Developer Platform for apps that run inside Reddit. That is the official, allowed way to build for Reddit, and Scout follows Reddit's rules for those apps.
Reddit's rules also keep Scout from calling Odeist AI, so the two are never linked. Instead, Odeist AI gives you a setup code with your settings, and you paste it into Scout once. Nothing comes back from Scout to Odeist AI.
Scout is part of your Odeist AI plan. It doesn't use credits. The Reddit agent never runs inside Odeist AI and makes no cards in Today.
Your settings
Open the Reddit agent under Brand › Agents, or add it with + Add agent. Your settings start from your brand profile; change what you like and tap Save:
- Brand name, What it does and who it's for, and Other names (a short name or your domain, up to 3);
- What buyers search for: up to 8 phrases someone writes when they need you;
- Competitors: up to 5;
- Subreddits to watch (up to 10) and to never show (up to 30). Tap a suggestion to add it. Scout checks each subreddit on Reddit and finds more by itself, and adds the ones it finds to its watch list unless you turn that off;
- Drafts a day (1 to 8, 3 by default) and Thread age (1 to 7 days, 3 by default);
- whether to alert you at once about a negative mention, and whether to send the weekly report.
The setup code carries only these settings: no emails, phone numbers, people's names, accounts or keys.
Setting it up
- Have a subreddit for your brand (public or private, for example r/AcmeHQ). You can create one on Reddit, or use one you already moderate.
- Install Odeist Scout in it. The Install Odeist Scout button on the Reddit agent's page shows once Reddit approves Scout.
- Open the Odeist Scout post in your subreddit (only its moderators see it), go to Setup, and paste your setup code. Copy setup code on the Reddit agent's page copies it.
Then set where your alerts go in Scout's Setup, and tap Check now, or wait for the next check.
Changed something? Save it, copy the code again and paste it in Scout's Setup. Scout keeps your alert channels.
Radar
Every 2 hours, and when you tap Check now, Scout searches all of Reddit for your brand, your phrases and your competitors, and reads new posts in the subreddits you watch. It skips threads that are too old, locked, removed or your own. For the best few threads a day (3 by default, up to 8), it drafts a reply written to that subreddit's rules: it answers the question first, mentions your product only where it fits and the rules allow it, and then says you work on it.
Each card shows why the thread is worth answering, a summary of the subreddit's rules, the post and the draft. Edit the draft, tap Copy reply, then Open thread to paste, and post it from your own Reddit account. Then tap I posted it. You can also Rewrite a draft or Skip the thread.
Mentions
Every relevant thread is kept for 30 days, with its mood. Filter by your brand, your competitors or questions, or show only negative ones. Draft a reply sends a thread to Radar. A new negative mention of your brand alerts you at once.
Insights
Every Monday, and when you tap Refresh, Scout writes a report from the week's threads:
- the questions people ask most and what frustrates them, in their own words;
- what people like and dislike about each competitor, and how they talk about you;
- which subreddits your audience is in, and whether each one allows promotion;
- the words people use, rising topics and ideas for posts.
The report's top points go to your alerts. Draft it on an idea writes a post draft under Community.
Community
This tab is your own subreddit:
- Inbox: a new post or comment from someone else gets a draft reply. Edit it, tap Reply as me and confirm, and it's posted from your account.
- Posts: post drafts from the report's ideas, or ones you write. Post now as me (after you confirm) posts from your account; Schedule posts at the time you choose.
- Weekly thread (off until you turn it on): on the day you choose, Scout posts a weekly questions-and-feedback thread and pins it.
Alerts
Scout can tell you about new threads, negative mentions and the weekly report by Reddit message, Slack, Discord or Telegram, and by WhatsApp where it's available. Where your alerts go is set in Scout itself, not in Odeist AI. Alerts carry titles, subreddit names and links back to Reddit; the drafts stay in the dashboard.
What's posted, and by whom
Scout never posts on its own in other subreddits. Reddit lets an app post only inside the subreddit it's installed in, so you copy replies for other subreddits and post them yourself. In your own subreddit, a reply or post goes out from your account only when you tap Reply as me or Post now as me and confirm. The app account posts only the weekly thread and the posts you scheduled, and only in your subreddit. Scout never votes, follows or sends messages to anyone but you.
Your data
Threads, drafts and the weekly report live in Scout on Reddit; Odeist AI doesn't copy them. Scout keeps its data in its own storage on Reddit, separately for each subreddit it's installed in, and nothing is copied to Odeist AI's servers. To read threads and write drafts and the report, it sends text to the AI service (OpenAI, or Google's Gemini as a fallback). Alerts go only to the channels you set up. Nothing is sold. See the Odeist Scout section of our privacy policy for what's kept and for how long.
